DEVELOPING A BUSINESS WEBSITE Back to the index

How much will it cost?

This is a little like "how long will it take?", because the cost and the time are all relative to how much you want your website to do, and what sort of quality you build into it.

Keep in mind that your website can help grow your business and generate more income. It can do this by attracting more customers, servicing more customers, providing a better service to your existing customers, and allowing you to provide a larger product or service range.

So, you should view your website development costs as an investment in your business. As you consider the costs in developing the right look, feel, content, functionality, and power of your site, also consider the potential revenue that your site can generate for your business - not just today, but well into the future.

As with all good business investments, planning is all important. There are many different areas in your website development, where costs will be incurred. Areas include:

  • Site design and consulting
  • Graphic design
  • Programming
  • Hosting
  • Software purchases
Make it a priority to know what's involved in developing a website, from the creative side, to the technical side. If you're aware of all the facets, and plan for them accordingly, then there won't be any hidden surprises, and you'll get what you payed for - in the time you allocated.

You can buy a graphic design template for a website from about $60 (see www.HelenDesign.com as an example), it's even cut up and coded in HTML for you. But, understand that this in itself is nowhere near a working site for your business.

Ausnetech develops fully functional websites from $590, which includes the purchase of a graphic design template and your first month's hosting. From there, the sky is the limit. To include e-commerce facilities, custom graphics, databases and interfaces to back-office systems all adds to costs.

By understanding the costs involved, deciding how far you want to go with your website, devising a plan, then sticking to your plan, you can leverage your development costs to create quite dramatic revenue increases for your business.
